Gaborone, Botswana (Capital Markets in Africa):- Shares of Domestic companies on the main board put up a fight as prices appeared in bullish mood recording marginal price rises against losses recorded by the indices.
The Botswana Domestic Composite Index (DCI) lost -0.05 percent to close at BWP 10,692.36 down -5.33 points from its last close of BWP 10,697.69
The Foreign Composite Index (FCI) however remained flat recording a minimal change -0.01 to close at 1,571.85 points to settle on the same points as the previous days session.
The Local Asset Sector Index (LASI) recorded a slight change closing 797.40 up 0.05 percent from its previous close of 797.35 signifying a rise of 0.01 points. (LASI is made up of the domestic companies and all foreign companies awarded the local asset status by the Ministry of Finance and development planning.)
From the market activity viewpoint, however, the daily volume and turnover settled at 295,429 shares traded at a value of BWP 1.8 Million. Likewise, the equity market capitalization settled at BWP 421,142.44 million.
Looking at the price movers’, 6 Domestic companies recorded price increases seeing all 6 settle in the green zone. BARCLAYS gained BWP 1 to close the day at BWP 427, CHOPPIES gained BWP 2 to settle at BWP 482, LETLOLE and PRIMETIME both moved BWP 1 to settle at BWP 221 and BWP 281 respectively. SEFALANA also saw a BWP 1 point rise to end at BWP 1203 and TURNSTAR completed the risers with BWP 1 to settle at 261.
NEWGOLD was the lone security on the losers side as it saw red with a drop of BWP -60 to take its share price to BWP 11090.
In terms of Turnover ENGEN topped the Domestic Equity Main Board chart with BWP 1,143,900.00 from 139,500 traded shares at BWP 820 after previously recording no trades at the same price the day before.
Barclays followed suit with BWP 520,910.00 Turnover from 122,000 traded shares. CHOPPIES 4,190 traded shares at BWP 482 delivered a BWP 20,195.80 turnover and SECHABA with a market capitalisation of 3,790 had 2,200 securities sold making a BWP 62,700.00 turnover.
